Osman Mohamud born in Somali and is a naturalized US citizen , reportedly made a telephone call saying he would set off a bomb at a tree lighting ceremony in Portland .He was arrested at around 1740 local time (0040 GMT Saturday) on Friday about 20 minutes before the tree lighting ceremony was to occur.
The 19 year old teenager, who lives in the town of Corvallis, has been arrested after allegedly plotting to carry out the car bomb attack and has been charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.
Mr. Mohamud had allegedly been in contact with an associate in north-west Pakistan; however the bomb was supplied by agents in a sting operation and was a fake. The sting began in August 2009 with e-mail exchanges between Mr. Mohamud and his alleged associate in Pakistan‘s North-West Frontier Province. Mr. Mohamud met with an undercover agent who posed as an associate of the Pakistan contact, to discuss the plan, Mr. Mohamud told the FBI agent her had been thinking of carrying out a jihad, or holy was, against infidels since he was 15 and was absolutely committed to carry out the attack on a very grand scale.
