An electrician who worked for Picasso installing burglar alarms in is homes throughout France and his villa in Cannes is in possession of 271 pieces of Picasso’s works. Pierre LeGuennec ,71 said Picasso gave him the works as a gift.
The pieces include , cubist paintings, notebooks and a valuable watercolor from Picassos Blue Period valued at about 60m euros. The nine cubist works that Mr. Guennec has is said to be worth 40m euros.
He was working at Picasso’s homes during the three years before the artist died in 1973. The retired electrician approached the artist’s estate to try and get Picasso’s son Claude to get the canvases authenticated, the administrators of the estate have filed a case for alleged illegal receipt of the works of art. Claude said his father would not have given so many works to a single person and dismissed Mr., LaGuenner’s answer of to how he came into have so many of his fathers art works.
The family contacted France’s specialist art police once the works were authenticated The police had already confiscated the paintings when they earlier raided his home on the Cote d’Azur. In Paris the BBC’s Christian Fraser, says a multimillion euro battle over the ownership will start over the ownership of the paintings.
