During a basketball game Friday at Ft McNair, President Obama suffered an elbow blow to his lip. The accidental blow to the lip from an opposing player split his lip that requited the president to have 12 stitches to close the injury.

The White House Medical Unit treated the injury, White house spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a statement. A local anesthetic was given to Mr. Obama while they stitched is lip with a smaller than usually used filament.
