ORONO, MN – Diabetes Sentry Products, Inc., producer of the world’s first non-invasive class-3 medical device for detection of hypoglycemia, has won the 2010 Perfect Pitch Award. PerfectBusiness.com, an online network of entrepreneurs, investors and business experts working together to promote entrepreneurship, presented the award at The Perfect Pitch 2010 Entrepreneur & Investor Conference held Oct. 7th and 8th in Las Vegas, NV. The competition featured hundreds of submissions from all 50 states and eight countries. Judges included over a hundred noted entrepreneurs and venture capitalists from across the country, including Josh Stein, a Managing Director at Draper Fisher Jurvetson.

The company’s product, called the Diabetes Sentry, is approved by the FDA for detecting symptoms of hypoglycemia in diabetic individuals. Hypoglycemia is a life threatening condition of insulin dependent diabetics, and no previously existing technology could accurately detect the symptoms until the Diabetes Sentry was developed. The system was originally designed to wear while sleeping, which is when most serious hypoglycemic events occur. The small device is worn like a wristwatch and produces an audible alarm when it detects either or both of the two symptoms of hypoglycemia, perspiration or drop in skin temperature. The Diabetes Sentry has received considerable praise from the 1,500+ customers who currently rely on its life saving benefits.
The company is also launching the World Hypoglycemia Prevention Foundation, a non-profit foundation that seeks to increase access to hypoglycemia prevention devices in communities across the world. As part of the launch, Diabetes Sentry has committed to donate a percentage of all Diabetes Sentry sales to the World Hypoglycemia Prevention Foundation.
