Most modern antibiotics prove to be ineffective against the bacteria which produce the enzyme Kiebsiella pneumoniae Caebapenemase .Better known as the Superbug.
People who are currently taking antibiotics and have weaken weakened immune systems are most at risk .A Brazilian hospital recently reported  18 fatal cases due to this Superbug
A study in the United States in 1999 first identified this dangerous bacteria that killed 40% of the people who were infected.
Over the past three weeks the number of people carrying his bacteria has risen sharply. Brasilia officials said 183 people have become infected. A spokeswomen for the health authority said.
Hospitals in the Chicago area reported a similar outbreak. An official with the disease control, Denise Cardo, reported, there has been an increase of the infection in hospitals in recent years.
Indiscriminate use of antibiotics Brazilian authorities think could have been the cause of the spread of the bacteria and they plan to have new regulations to prevent the sale of antibiotics without prescriptions.
