Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds were married in a quiet September 2008 ceremony at a wilderness retreat in Ryan’s home town of Vancouver.”It was my mission to have a moment of privacy, to do something for myself,” Johansson told the Los Angeles Times of the hush-hush affair. “I was happy with the results of that.”
They remained fairly quite about their relationship, only rarely giving up small morsels about their married life. But Scarlett did tell In Style this past April that she enjoyed cooking for Reynolds and her domestic life with him. “There’s a nice comfort in that. That part of your life is certain, in a way. You’ve got your home in that other person.”
Even having her husband named People’s magazines Sexiest Man Alive last month wasn’t enough to keep Scarlett from ending her marriage to Ryan. “The big problem with their relationship is the distance,” a source told Us magazine yesterday, saying the split came at Johansson’s behest. “They spend a lot of time apart when they are working. She’s been unhappy for a while.” While the Us account said the couple have been separated for about two weeks, a source told People magazine the couple had separated six months ago.
Reynolds and Johansson, released a statement saying, “After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”
