Ricky Gervais leaves Globes stage during ceremony

The British comedian ,Ricky Gervais the Golden Globes host just seemed to disappear for about an hour during the live broadcast awards ceremony. Since he had been poking fun at many of the guests it was suspected that he had been asked to tone down his act as when he returned to the stage after a lengthy period of time, his act and comments were a bit toned down compared to what was said earlier. Gervais said,”I did every single introduction I was meant to. There just happened to be a long gap, the atmosphere backstage and at the after show was great .”  A divided opinion from the critics was the comment about Gervais performance. It was the second year in succession that Gervais hosted the gala event and he opened the show saying,”It’s going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking or as Charlie Sheen calls it , breakfast.” Jonny Depp and Angelina Jolie , were a few of the other stars that Gervais poked fun at and when he introduced Robert Downey Jr he said, “Many of you in this room probably know him best from such facilities as the Betty Ford Clinics and Los Angeles County Jail. Downey Jr said,”Aside from the fact that it’s been hugely mean spirited, with mildly sinister undertones , I’d say the vibe of the show is pretty good so far , wouldn’t you ? “The Los Angeles Times said the Gervais  jokes set a crorrove tone for the night  and Tom Hanks commented,”We recall when Ricky Gervais was a slightly chubby but very kind comedian and Tim Allen added,”Neither of which he is now.” Gervais claims,I was allowed to choose who I would introduce in advance . I obviously chose presenters who I had the best jokes for, and who I knew had a good sense of humor.
