A recent study undertaken by Dr. Alberto Ascherio at the Harvard School of Public Health found that caffeine has a direct effect on the instance of depression in women. The study collected information on 53,739 female nurses, average age 63. Dr. Ascherio followed these women for 10 years and found that the regular coffee drinkers in the group had a 20% lower risk of developing depression than those who rarely or never drank coffee.
