Hugh Hefner is having a auction of the many pictures he has from Dali to Marilyn Monroe to name just a few . They will be auctioned off December 8 at Christie’s calling it ,“The Year of the Rabbit.” The 1966 watercolor of a reclining Dali nude called,”Playmate ,‘that hung in Hugh Hefner’s bedroom at the Playboy Mansion is among the 125 artworks being auctioned off by the magazine known for baring all for 60 years.

The Deli watercolor is estimated to bring $100,000 to $150,000 .The magazine has entertained, titillated and informed with its commissioned art and has blurred the lines between fine and popular art . Chicago based Playboy housed an archive of 5,000 contemporary artworks and more than 20 million photographs in a storage building in the city, said Aaron Baker, the curator of the Playboy Art Collection for the last eight years.

Most of the items that will be in the sale have appeared in the magazine Marilyn Monroe was on the cover photo of the magazines debut in 1953, a bunny suited Pamela Anderson and comedian Dan Aykroyd in a conehead costume brings another photo memory. An early 1960 photo of Bridget Bardot, the sex kitten and three Alberto Vargas pinup water color and pencil illustration boards are among the famous pictures. Tom Wassermann, the pop artist who drew the sexually charged oil of a scarlet lipstick mouth is expected to be a top draw at the action, Wassermann’s “Mouth No 8,’ is estimated to bring $2 million to $3 million dollars.
