The Palestinian detainees claim they were held in appalling unsanitary conditions and were subjected to physical abuse and sleep deprivation according to a report by two Israeli rights groups. During lengthy interrogations the Israeli agents bound the detainees to chairs while they insulted and threatened to hit them ,a report from B’Tselem and Hamoked stated.
A 63 year old widow was brought to the facility and detained for two days before being released .,apparently this was done so her incarcerated relatives could witness her anguish in detention. Family members were often used as a means of pressure used by the interrogators.
The cruel ,inhuman and degrading treatment at times amounted to torture.
The Palestinians have filed 645 complaints to the Justice Ministry about interrogation methods since 2001. The military police have opened 427 investigations of alleged violence against the Palestinian detainees between 2000 and 2007 , a statement from the ministry said, but to date there has been no claim that has led to criminal investigations or any results of these investigations.
The ministry denies many of the charges saying the interrogations were conducted according to law in order to prevent illegal activities that would be a detriment to state security. Israel’s Justice Ministry says it respects the law and has denied the claims made against them.
