Reston, VA (PRWEB) April 05, 2012
MapMuse today announced a major data update to its Alternative Fuel Locator Maps, a series of interactive web maps that locate alternative fuel refilling stations across the USA. Included among the maps are topics such as Biodiesel, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Ethanol (E85), Electric, Hydrogen, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and Propane.
?In the green age we live in, it?d be negligent of us not to have these maps available on our site,? says Michael Pilon, owner of MapMuse. ?There are more people driving alt fuel vehicles than ever before, which means there are more people looking for places to refuel.? According to the Alternative Fuels & Advanced Vehicles Data Center, there were over 800,000 alternative fuel vehicles driven on US roads in 2009, a number which has no doubt increased significantly in the years since. MapMuse?s web maps supply these drivers with directions to fuel stations across the country, as well as other helpful information such as access restrictions, blend types, payment methods accepted, and web links when available.
In the interest of ensuring the accuracy of its data, MapMuse has included only fueling locations that have been verified by the Alternative Fuels & Advanced Vehicles Data Center. The number of stations of each fuel type ranges from between 62 LNG locations to over 2700 Ethanol locations, with most maps falling on the larger side of that spectrum. Users and station owners are also encouraged to submit additional stations and details directly through the MapMuse website; all suggestions are vetted for accuracy before going live on the map. ?Data accuracy is extremely important to us,? says Pilon. ?There?s nothing worse than driving on an empty tank to a station that doesn?t exist.?
Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, MapMuse has been providing the general public with interactive maps of brands and interests since 2000. The site has made it a goal to map any topic that can conceivably be geolocated, and their thousands of maps run the gamut from the very broad (e.g. Hotels, Beaches, Italian Restaurants ) to the very specific (e.g. Ice Hotels, Nude Beaches, Restaurants featured on travelling food TV shows). MapMuse has also entered the mobile applications market over the past few years, creating iPhone and Android locator apps some of their more popular topics. MapMuse is planning to release an iPhone app version of the Alternative Fuels Locator maps sometime in the next few months.
