The launching of Google e-books, formerly known as Google Editions, will allow users to utilize a range of devices to download three million e-books including classic literature . . More people are reading digitally and Google expects the e-reading market to double in size in 2011 plus they plan to provide the European market with their E-book service.

Due to legal and technical problems the start of the e-books had been delayed due to fighting a two year legal battle with authors and publishers in the United States .but now Google e-books plans to have its own store.

There competition will be, Amazon which links its Kindle device to its own store and Apple with its iBookstore. Library’s worry that the e-books will discourage people from using their facilities. In 2010 according to the research firm Forrester ,10.3 million e-readers were sold in the US, not including the iPad.

It is predicted that the e-book market will be worth $966m by the end of 2010. Santiago de la Mora, director of books at Google said, ”It benefits authors because they will be able to be more visible and more accessible than with the physical constraints of a book store plus be good for publishers who will be able to promote blacklist titles.”
