A company supplied 25 animal feed makers with 3,000 tons of contaminated fatty acids that contained the poisonous chemical dioxin. Possible illegal activity is being investigated by German officials in Schleswig where the Harles and Jentzsch plants are located and they found excessive levels of dioxin last March. As a result of tests from the Harles and Jentzsch plant some 4,700 German farms have been shut down. The ongoing investigation on why the 3,000 tons of animal feed that was containing the substance was an accident or just to save money .
The north German plant that seems to be the source of the problem makes a variety of products to be used in animal feed and also in processes like industrial paper making . Contamination worries have spread across Europe but officials say that dioxin levels pose no problems or risks to humans. A batch of eggs that had been exported to Holland and then shipped to Britain have widen the scare of contamination that was only confined to Germany even though the British authorities have said the amounts of dioxin in any egg would be small and not dangerous but its still linked to the development of cancer in humans.
German pork and poultry products that were to be imported to South Korea have been stopped because of health concerns from the dioxin scare , the media reported on Friday..The authorities keep trying to inform the public on the latest reports but it poses a problem as the information keeps changing .
