General Motors Faces More Seat Belt Recalls

General Motors Company said on Friday it is recalling about 111,000 GMC Terrain,Chevy Equinox, and Cadillac SRX 2011 small SUV models because the anchor to the seat belt buckle may fail, which could lead to injury in a crash. Dealers will start notifying owners of the vehicles involved in January, GM said. GM will pay for the work done by dealers.The 2011 model year vehicles were delivered in the United States, Mexico and Canada.The belt buckles were supplied by Autoliv Inc.

Hyojin of Korea made the buckles and supplied them to Autoliv, GM said.GM spokesman Alan Adler said there are no replacement parts involved in the remedy to be applied by dealers,The issue came in assembly of the parts.Of the total 111,136 recalled vehicles, GM said,29,926 are Terrain models, 13,405 are SRX models and  67,805 are Equinox models.
In November, GM recalled nearly 200,000 compact pickup trucks due to missing child seat anchors.

The two recalls are not for the same issue, Adler said.GM shares were down 0.3 percent at $33.50 on the New York Stock Exchange at midday. The automaker’s shares had an initial public offering price of $33 when they were relaunched on the on the New York Stock Exchange in November
