One of the parcel bombs sent from Yeman headed for the United States was disarmed 17 minutes before it was to explode. France’s interior Minister Brice Hortefeux disclosed this information when he was speaking to France 2 television. Although he did not revile the source of the news or which of the two bombs he was referring to.
The 17 minute claim could not be confirmed according to a White House spokesman .Air freight carried the two bombs that was being sent to the US but they were intercepted in Dubal and the UK and defused. A tip off from Saudi authorities lead to the bombs being pulled off US bound cargo planes in England and Dubal.
The bombs that were hidden in printer cartridges contained a difficult to detect explosives called PETIN and contained 300-400 of PETIN,more than enough to cause a large explosion German officials said.
Mobile phones were wired to circuit boards that did not contain the SIM cards that are needed to receive calls ,were to be used as timers for the bombs.
Yeman security forces are searching for Ibrahim alAsiri the suspected bomb maker who is also believed to be involved in last years failed December 25 bomb attempt on a US airliner and other attacks.
