Professor David Nutt former UK drug adviser conducted various tests on the harms of drugs. Alcohol misuse is a problem because it is so widely used .and is even more harmful than heroin or crack cocaine according to a study published in the medical journal the Lancet.
When test scores were conducted on the danger of drugs and the harm they might cause society the conclusion was alcohol ranked as the most harmful. Although crack cocaine is more addictive , people can redidly get alcohol every day if they crave it .Crack and Methtiamphetamine ,also known as crystal meth were found to be the most harmful drugs to individuals with alcohol, heron and crack cocaine being the most harmful to society.
Ecstasy and LSD are among the least damaging while tobacco and cocaine are equally as bad as alcohol. Professor David Nutt co-authored the report on the tests and formed the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs, a group that investigates the drug issue without any political interference.
The members of the group scored each drug for the harm including mental and physical damage, addition, crime and costs to the economy and communities. The results don’t agree with the government’s drug classification system but the authors of the papers argue that their system provides an accurate assessment of harm for the policy makers.
