Bret Michaels proposed to “baby mama,”Kristi Gibson

Bret Michaels proposed to his on and off again girlfriend and self-described “baby mama,”Kristi Gibson on this week’s Season 1 finale of his VH1 reality show, “Life As I Know It,” almost immediately skeptics started questioning whether he proposed to generate ratings and ensure there’s  a second season of his struggling series. But in a new post-finale interview with People Magazine, he ensures his intentions are honorable.”It was as real and sincere as it gets and I feel absolutely great” Bret says of his proposal to Kristi “And hopefully it’ll work.” Bret explains that, just as the show depicted, he had actually been considering proposing to Kristi for a long time and had almost done so over their romantic anniversary dinner at Mastro’s restaurant, but the vibe was not right. “I wasn’t ready there because I felt really strange. It would’ve been like, ‘I’m in the middle of proposing and oh, by the way, there’s a Cobb salad coming.”The moment was a little more real and relaxed although the VH1 cameras were still there when Bret spontaneously popped the question during an intimate conversation with Kristi at their Arizona home during  a scene shot only a couple weeks ago. “In my mind, it wasn’t supposed to happen like that, I wanted it to be a little more like the movies, where the white horse gallops up and all that stuff,” Bret admits. “But when Kristi said, ‘I don’t need this ring, I don’t need the piece of paper, I love you no matter what,’ she took the pressure off.

After that, I was so in the moment, I didn’t feel like there was anyone around us.”Bret confesses this “may be the longest engagement in history,but my intentions are good.” Kristi, on the other hand, is already talking about  how she envisions their unscheduled nuptials. “Ever since I was young, I always said I’d want to go to some tropical island and get married on the beach. I seriously would not want a big wedding. So maybe we’ll go away and then have a huge party with family and friends.”
