The family of the Ahmadi sect was forced by police to exhume the body of their relative, Shehzard Waraich who died on October 30 because it was buried in a Muslim graveyard, which is against the law and Javed Islam the Sargodha district police chief said it was his job to enforce the law.
The family removed the body and have now buried him in a graveyard several miles away from the village in a graveyard reserved for the Ahmandis The police took this unusual move because they said the burial was ‘illegal” and anti-Ahmadi threatened peace in the area officials in the Sargodha district of Punjab province said. A law passed in 1984 barred Ahmadis from considering themselves Muslim’s and also put restrictions on their religious practices.
Salimuddin, the Ahmadis spokesman said it was the 30th incident since the 1984 law passed where an Ahmadi body had been forcefully removed by the administration and to satisfy the opponents of the community. The administration always says they are trying to maintain peace and always sides with the opponents.
Some local people and members of the Khatm-e-Nabueat organization approached the police to protest the burial but police conveyed they were only following the law. The Khatm-e-Nabuwat organization is an anti-Ahmadi religious party that watches what their activities are.
