Author Revisits Golden Age of Hollywood in Novel

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (PRWEB) April 20, 2012

Jason Fury?s new novel ?The Kiss of King Kong? (published by AuthorHouse) is set in Hollywood during the late 1920s and 1930s, when stars were worshipped around the world ? glamorous heroes who could be toppled with just one misadventure.

Against the tumult of the ?talkie? revolution in Hollywood during 1929, three extraordinary young men want to make their mark: a charismatic street hustler who becomes a great matinee idol; a blonde dancer who becomes one of Hollywood?s most popular drag queens; and the stunning Adonis who becomes a stag film stud. All three men become involved with each other through the ?30s and the novel ends with all three competing for roles in ?Gone With the Wind.?

Throughout ?The Kiss of King Kong,? Fury put his heroes into real and imaginary movies such as ?Gone With the Wind,? ?King Kong,? ?Forty-Second Street,? ?Dark Victory? and many others. They meet the movie greats of that era: Bette Davis, Greta Garbo, Kay Francis and Marlene Dietrich. When Mack Johnson is cast as an extra in ?King Kong,? he?s asked to screen test as Tarzan. The director refuses to release him and the role goes to another actor, thus destroying Mack?s big break. Mack always remembers this incident as a curse, of being kissed by King Kong and his big dreams destroyed.

?I?m passionately interested in the silent and early talkie era of Hollywood of the 1920s and early 1930s,? Fury says. ?With the current great success of the film ?The Artist,? audiences are becoming fascinated with the long-gone silent era and the advent of the ?talkies.? My book takes up where ?The Artist? ended.?
