?For the 15 million people who suffer from Diabetes, daily life can be challenging. From testing blood sugar levels to understanding the science behind insulin, it can get overwhelming,? said Sue Rogers, president of Oregon Hot Tub. ?The key to living with diabetes – and learning to manage it effortlessly- lies in making a few simple lifestyle changes. We?ve come up with some tips that we hope people will find useful.
1 – Exercise at Least 30 minutes Every Day – We all know how hard it can be to find time to exercise every day. But here?s the great news- you don?t have to lump all 30 minutes together at the same time. Break it up into smaller sessions when you have the time. If you think about all the little missed opportunities for exercise you pass every day, you?d be surprised at how much time you can find. For instance, take the stairs instead of the elevator at the office. You can burn 5 minutes of time simply by walking up the stairs. Do this a few times and you?re halfway done your exercise for the entire day.
2 – Eat Well Balanced Meals – Eating right is important for everyone, but even more so for those of us with Type 2 Diabetes. Always start with a healthy breakfast. Not only will it give you energy to keep going throughout the morning, but it will move you in the right direction towards lunch. It?s true, eating breakfast can be a challenge if you?re limited on time. But with quick, low sugar options available, there?s no excuse not to eat. Find healthy alternatives to a sit down breakfast and you can still eat right- even on the go.
Meal time doesn?t have to be a chore. Use diabetic cookbooks or look online for new and creative diabetic friendly meals you can enjoy with the family or alone. Remember, it?s not always what you cook but how you cook. Often, you don?t have to deprive yourself of the foods you love, you simply need to learn how to eat them.
3 – Soak 20 Minutes a Day in the Hot Tub – Here?s a tip most of us look forward to. By soaking in a hot tub 3 or 4 times a week for 20 minutes, you can actually control your Diabetes by decreasing your blood sugar. It works like this- the hot water from the hot tub dilates blood vessels which increases blood flow. The increased blood flow makes it easier for your body to use insulin. Relax, de-stress, and feel good about yourself because a dip in the hot tub is exactly what the doctor ordered.
?To encourage people to check out the medical and ?feel good? benefits of soaking in a hot tub for themselves, Oregon Hot Tub is providing free test soaks at all their showrooms. We do recommend however that people wanting to schedule their free 30-minute soak call us ahead of time to reserve their spot,? commented Dave Doornink, marketing manager.
