The waters near Hawaii is where the Russian aerospace experts suspect the satellites and the upper stage rocket carrying them crashed into the Pacific Ocean after the carrier rocket veered off course after the launch , the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reports .
The satellites were sent to complete Russia’s GLONASS navigation system .After the three Russian satellites that were being carried by the Proton-M rocket carrier ,were launched from the Bailonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan , they failed to orbit .After separating with a booster rocket from the main rocket the satellites went of course officials said but did not confirm that the satellites had crashed ,a spokesman for Russia’s space agency Roscosnos informed the Reuters new agency.
For more than 30 years and spending billions of dollars into the project, the Russians have been developing this new mnavigation system that was meant to compete with the United States GPS network. A number of Glonass have already been launched by Russia this year and the navigation system was meant to be in place by next year and all new cars sold in Russia from 2012 could be installed with the GLONASS system, Russian Prime Minister Viadimir Putin said.
