A tunnel that was 1,800 feet long and waist high was discovered by California and Mexican police , it was used to smuggle drugs across the border.. The police seized some 25 tons of marijuana from the tunnel that was equipped with lighting, ventilation ,rails and a pulley system the agents believed was used to ferry packets across the border.
On the outskirts of Tijuana, the main gateway for drugs into California, they found the tunnel was connected to a warehouse that was abandoned .The other end of the tunnel was connected to a warehouse in California. The tunnel and entrance found at the warehouses was just over 4 ft high.
The US agents patrolling near the border crossing in the Otay Mesa area of San Diego pulled over a tractor trailer that had just left a warehouse under surveillance and discovered this latest tunnel after they searched the warehouse.
The tunnel seems to have been in operation for less than a month according to the authorities. Many of the border tunnels discovered that were dug by the Mexican cartels
have not been finished and many still are in the process of being dug out..In the past four years about 75 tunnels have been located with .the longest tunnel found so far being 2,400 feet ,it was discovered in 2006
