Quarra Taps Margaret Ann Conlon for its Nationally Recognized Stone Carving Team

– Madison, WIOctober 21, 2010 Jobn Rodell, the executive vice president of Madison, WI-based Quarra Stone, has tapped Margaret Ann Conlon to join its nationally recognized stone carving team. Quarra supplies and fabricates natural stone for signature architectural projects and landmark building restorations throughout North America.

Mr. Rodell said that Ms. Conlon’s appointment not only demonstrates the company’s commitment to hire the most talented artisans available; but also its interest in encouraging qualified women to enter what have been traditionally male- dominated trades. Quarra recently hosted a female master carver from Germany as a guest artist for a three-year stint to help mentor its stone carving team and work on high-profile carving projects.

In her capacity as a stone carver for Quarra, Ms. Conlon will work on select carving teams assigned to premier historic restoration projects now underway at Quarra such as the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, PA and the New York State Capitol in Albany, NY.

Ms. Conlon was a scholarship student at the American College of Building Arts in Charleston, Carolina and was the first female to earn a BS degree in Architectural Stone Carving there. Among her numerous accomplishments as an undergraduate was her participation in a partnership between the University of Florida College of Design, the Preservation Trade Network, and the American College of the Building Arts on restoration efforts in Hurricane Katrina damaged New Orleans.

During the summer of Summer 2008, she was selected for an internship at the Lincoln Cathedral in Linconshire, UK, training with the Cathedral Works Department in conservation methods. Ms. Conlon was also an intern with the Prince’s Trust Foundation,    The Prince of Wales’s Building Crafts Apprenticeship in London, England, studying concepts in green and urban design
